An Historical, Critical, Geographical, Chronological, and Etymological Dictionary of the Holy Bible: the great Biblical dictionary of the Benedictine Dom Augustin Calmet, abbot of Senones. Every proper name in the Old and New Testaments — men, women, cities, countries, rivers, mountains — with the remarkable common words, the animals, plants, stones and gems of Scripture, and Calmet's learning on the antiquities, customs, laws and festivals of the Hebrews, set in alphabetical order and illustrated with the copper plates of the original. This is the English edition of 1732 in three volumes, made by two Anglican clergymen from Calmet's last and fullest French edition. It is the only complete, unabridged English text of the Dictionary that can be read and searched online: the later English 'Calmet' of Charles Taylor was revised and abridged, and the 1732 volumes have until now been available only as page scans. Every entry from A to Z is here, with the copper plates in their places, and the whole of the third volume's further matter: the Bibliotheca Sacra, Calmet's catalogue of the best books on Scripture, with its table of authors; Folard's dissertation on the Tacticks of the Hebrews and the dissertation on Hebrew coins; the tables of the Hebrew coins, weights and measures; the chronological table of the history of the Bible; the calendar of the Jews; and the etymological dictionary of every name in Scripture. The front matter of 1732 is here too, with Calmet's own preface.

This is not a new translation but the English translation of 1732, transcribed in full. Calmet's text is given entire. Of the translators' own notes, their scholarly ones are kept and marked as theirs; the sixty-one in which they argued against Catholic doctrine are omitted, as are three passages of the same kind in their preface. The text has been read against the printed volumes, and what the transcription had dropped restored from them; the printer's list of errata of 1732 is made in the text.

The front matter of 1732 comes first; then each letter of the Dictionary has its own index of entries, and every entry has its own page; then the appendices of the third volume. The rebuilt tables carry the printed pages beneath them.
