The first part of the great chronicle of St. Antoninus, Archbishop of Florence: the history of the world from the creation of Adam to the persecution of Diocletian, in eight titles — the ages of the world from Adam to Noah and from Abraham to David; the fourth and fifth ages to the coming of Christ; the life of Christ himself; the Church militant with the Apostles and their preaching; the reign of Vespasian and the martyrs under the emperors; and the persecution of Diocletian and Maximian. Antoninus gathers sacred and profane history into one narrative, weighing his sources as he goes, and closes the volume with his own alphabetical register of everything treated in it. In English for the first time.
