Zachariah (7)

  1. ZACHARIAH, Son of Barachiah, or Jeberechiah, of whom mention is made Isaiah viii. 2.; or, according to St. Hieron. in Isa. viii.Jerome, this is the Prophet mentioned in the Chronicles, under the Reign 2 Chron. xxvi. 5.of Hezekiah, or rather under the Reign of Azariah or Uzziah. And he sought God in the days of Zachariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. This Zachariah might live to the Reign of Abaz, in the Year 3262, when the Lord said to him, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz. Isaiah adds, And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zachariah the son of Jeberechia. These two Persons might give Testimony, that at such a time he had foretold that he should have a Son, and that before this Son should be able to call his Father or Mother, Resin and Pekah, the two Enemies of Judah, should be utterly destroyed.
