VASHNI, or Vasseni, the eldest Son of Samuel, according to this Text of the Chronicles; And the Sons of Samuel, the first-born, 1 Chron. vi. 28.Vashni, and Abiah. Some Latin Copies have Vashni, Joel, and Abiah. But this Passage is visibly corrupted. Vashni, which is put for a proper Name in Hebrew, signifies The Second; so that it should be thus supplied, The Sons of Samuel were Joel the first-born, and the second Abiah. See 1 Chron. vi. 33.
