NABONASSAR, King of Babylon, the same as Baladan, Berodach, or Merodach-baladan, Isai. xxxix. 1. and 2 Kings xx. 12. He is also called Belesis, or Belessus, in Agathias and Alexander Polyhistor. But lastly he is most known by the Name of Nabonassar, given him by Hipparchus, Ptolemy, and Censorinus. He reigned fourteen Years at Babylon, from the Year of the World 3257, to 3272, and had Nabius for his Successor. The Epocha or Æra of Nabonassar, so famous among Chronologers, falls upon the Year 3967 of the Julian Period, 3257 from the Creation of the World, 747 Years before the Vulgar Æra, and 743 Years before the Birth of Christ. See BALADAN.
