VIII. JUDAS, whose name we read in chap. i. 10. of the second book of Maccabees, was perhaps Judas the Essenian, or Judas the son of Hircanus, and firnamed Aristobulus, whom we shall next speak of. We have no other knowledge of him, than as we read his name in the beginning of a letter from the senate of Jerusalem to Aristobulus, King Ptolemy’s preceptor, written about the year of the world 3880, before J.C. 120, before the vulgar Æra 124.
