GILEAD, the son of Machir, and Numb. xxvi. 29.grandson of Manasseh, had his inheritance allotted him in the Mountains of Gilead, beyond Jordan. From thence he took the name of Gilead; for these Mountains were called so, long before he was born. His sons were Jeezer, Helek, Asriel, Schechem, Shemida, and Hepher. See Numb. xxvi. 30, 31.
