ARMENIA, a Province of Asia which includes the sources of the Tigris and Euphrates, the Araxes and Phasis, wherein also we suppose the Province of Eden to be, where Paradise was situated. The name of Armenia is derived either from Aram the Father of the Syrians, or from Harminni the Mountain of the Mineans. Minni, or the Mineans, are taken notice of Jer. li. 27. Gen. viii. 4.in Jeremiah; in Genesis, where Moses says that the Ark rested upon the Mountains of Armenia, or according to the Hebrew reading, upon the Mountains of Ararat; 2 Kings xix. 37.and in the second Book of Kings, where it is said, that the two Sons of Sennacherib, after having killed their Father, escaped into Armenia, in terram Armeniorum; or, as the Hebrew reads it, in the land of Ararat.
