ARCHELAIS, a City or Town of Judæa, built by Archelaus, Ethnarch of the Country, and Son to Herod the Great, some time before his exile at Vienne in Dauphiny. Peutinger’s Tables place it between Jericho and Scythopolis, probably in that large plain which lies upon the Western shore of the River Jordan.
