Alexander (XIV)

XIV. Alexander Lysimachus, Alabarch of Alexandria, and Brother to Philo the Jew. Some believe that this was he who was in company with the Priests, when the Apostles were carried before the Senate to give an account of their doctrine and conduct. This Alexander was the wealthiest Jew of his time. He made rich presents to the Temple, and was the Father of Tiberius Alexander, who renounced the Religion of the Jews, and turned Pagan1. Alexander Lysimachus had the management of the Empress Antonia’s affairs. Caligula put him in prison; and he was not set at liberty till the reign of Claudius, Caligula’s Successor2.
