Zebulun (2)

  1. ZEBULUN, a City of the Tribe of Josh. xix. 27.Asher, but which probably was afterwards yielded to the Tribe of Zebulun, from whence it took its Name. It was not far from Ptolemais, since Josephus1 makes the Length of Lower Galilee to be from Tiberias to Ptolemais. It had the Name of Zabulon andrôn given it, or Zebulun of Men, probably because of its great Populousness.2 When Cestius entered to it, he gave the Plunder of it to his Soldiers, and then set fire to it, though he admired the Beauty of it; for its Houses were built like those of Tyre, Sidon, and Berytus. Thus saith Josephus, l. 2. c. 22. p.817. de Bell. Elon, the Judge of Israel, was of the Tribe of Zebulun, and was buried in this City, Judg. xii. 12.
