Wall

WALL. The Lord tells the Jerem. i. 18. xv. 20.Prophet Jeremiah, that he will make him as a Wall of Brass, to withstand the Disorders of the House of Israel. St. Paul calls the High-Priest Ananias a whited Wall, Acts xxiii. 3.intending to shew his Hypocrisy. Elsewhere he says, that Jesus Christ by his Death has broke down the Partition-Wall, that separated us from God: Or, Ephes. ii. 14.rather, that he has taken away the Wall that separated the Jew and the Gentile, so that these two People, when a converted to Jesus Christ, may make but one People.

Heretofore they used to hang up their Bucklers upon the Walls of the Cities, and upon any Alarm they were taken down. Hence Isaiah says, Parietem nudavit clypeis.

Isai. xvi. 7, 11.Murus cocti lateris, or murus fictilis, signifies the City Ar, the Capital of the Moabites, otherwise called Kir-aroseth, that is, the City of Bricks.
