Rom. xvi. 12.TRYPHENA and TRYPHOSA, Christian Women, whom St. Paul mentions in his Epistle to the Romans. Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Much mention is made of these two Women in the History of St. Thecla; but as this History is thought to have been corrupted, it can give no Authority to the Actions of these holy Women. The Roman Martyrology puts down their Feasts on the 10th of November. ‘Tis said they went to Rome to be serviceable to the Saints, and to obtain a Crown of Martyrdom there; but God did not permit that their Desires should be gratified in this City. They returned into the East, where their Blood was spilt for the sake of Jesus Christ.
