Terumah

TERUMAH, or Thrumah, a Hebrew Word,1 that in general signifies an Offering or Oblation, and is commonly translated by the Septuagint and St. Jerom, oblatio, primitiæ, separatio, donarium. The Hebrew Word Rum, from whence Terumah is derived, signifies to lift up; because they generally lifted up on high before the Lord the Offerings that were made to him in the Tabernacle, and which they waved towards the four Quarters of the World. The Word Terumah is not read in the Latin Text of the Scripture.
