TEBET, or Thevet, the fourth Month of the Civil Year of the Hebrews, and the tenth of their Ecclesiastical Year. It answer’d to our Moon of December, and has but 29 Days. The second Day of this Month is the last of the Octave of the Dedication of the Temple, after it was purified by Judas Maccabeus. See 1 Mac. iv. 59. John x. 22.
On the tenth Day the Jews fast, because of the Translation which was made of the Law, from Hebrew into Greek, by the Command of Ptolemy Philadelphus. This Fast holds for three Days, as they say. See the Article Septuagint.
