- TAMAR, Daughter of Absalom, who was of an extraordinary Beauty. Some Greek 2 Sam. xiv. 27.and Latin Copies insinuate that she married Rehoboam King of Judah, and was Mother to Abijam the Successor of Rehoboam: But neither the Hebrew nor Vulgate acknowledge this Interpolation, which is therefore of no Authority. We read in the Chronicles that 2 Chron. xi. 20.Rehoboam married Maachah the Daughter of Absalom; that is, probably, the Grandaughter of Absalom by Tamar; for often the Name of Daughter is put for Grandaughter.
