Tabor (3)

  1. TABOR. The Plain of Tabor, or the Oak of Tabor, spoken of 1 Sam. x. 3. cannot be near Tabor of Galilee, as appears from the Passage wherein it is mentioned. This Oak must be between Bethlehem and Bethel. It might be translated, The Oak of the Hill or Eminence. We find elsewhere the Word Tabor in an appellative Sense, to signify an Eminence or high Place. See the Hebrew of Judg. ix. 36.

Chisloth-Tabor, or Chesulloth-Tabor, mentioned Josh. xix. 12, 18. or Chasalus, as it is called in Eusebius and St. Jerom, was at the foot of Mount Tabor, ten Miles from Diocæsarea, towards the East.
