Volume II · S

So

SO, or Sua, a King of Egypt: He made an Alliance with Hoshea King of Israel,1 and having promis’d him all sorts of Assistance, yet gave him none at all, nor prevented Shalmaneser King of Assyria from taking Samaria, and subverting the Kingdom of Israel, in the Year of the World 3283, before Christ 717, before the Vulgar Era 721. Usher and Marsham think that So, otherwise Soos or Sous, is the same as Sabachon King of Ethiopia,2 who is taken for the first King of the Dynasty of the Egyptians in Egypt. Usher says, he began to reign in Egypt in the Year of the World 3277, having taken and burnt alive Bocchoris King of this Country. He reign’d eight Years, from 3277 to 3285, before Christ 723, before the Vulgar Era 727. He had for his Successor Sevechus, whom Usher thinks to be the same as Sethon, mention’d by Herodotus, l. 2. c. 141.
