XIX. SIMON, a Slave of Herod the Great, who, after the Death of this Prince, had the Assurance of aspiring to the Diadem, having no other Merit to found his Pretensions upon, but a graceful Person, and an advantageous Stature. He burnt the Palace of Jericho, and some other Edifices, giving the Plunder to those that follow’d him. But Gratus the Governor of the Province set upon him, overcame him, and having come up with him as he fled away through narrow Passes, he kill’d him: This happen’d three Years before the Common Era.
