Saphir

SAPHIR. The Greek Copies of Joshua xv. 48. place a City call’d Saphir in the Mountains of Judah: But the Hebrew there reads Shamir. Micah i. 11. speaks also of the Inhabitants of Saphir. Transite vobis habitatio pulchra. The Hebrew says, Mic. i. 11.Pass ye away, into a strange Country, thou Inhabitant of Saphir. But perhaps by this the Prophet intends the City of Sephoris, or Sephora in Galilee. Eusebius says, that there is a City by the Name of Saphir, between Eleutheropolis and Askalon.
