Samos

SAMOS, a famous Island of the Archipelago, upon the Coast of Asia Minor. The Romans writ to the Governor of Samos in 1 Macc. xv. 23.Favour of the Jews, in the Time of Simon Maccabæus, in the Year of the World 3865, before Christ 135, before the Vulgar Acts xx. 15.Era 139. St. Paul went ashore in the same Island, as he went to Jerusalem, in the 58th Year of the Vulgar Era. Isaiah speaks of the Vessels of Clay of Samos;1 Væ qui contradicit fictori suo, testa de Samiis terræ; Woe to the Man who disputes against him that has form’d him; Man, who is but a Potsherd of an Earthen Vessel of Samos. But the Hebrew reads only, A Vessel of Clay in the midst of Vessels of Clay.
