Rupture

1 Sam. vi. 7.RUPTURE; Confractio. To make a Rupture, is a common Expression in the Original Text of Scripture, instead of saying, to strike dead. The Lord made a Rupture in Uzzah; he smote him dead. Purify Exod. xix. 10, 12.your selves, for fear the Lord should be angry, and make a Rupture in the midst of Psal. cv.you. And in the Psalms,1 God resolved to destroy them; and would have done it, had not Moses his Servant stood in the Gap, or the Rupture, in his Presence; had he not presented himself between, to turn away the Wrath of God.

Isai. lviii. 12.Ruptura is also put for a Breach: Thou shalt be called Repairer of the Breach, or Rupture: Vocaberis ædificator sepium. The Hebrew says, Sepient rupturas. And Amos; Amos ix. 11.In that Day will I raise up the Tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the Breaches thereof, or its Ruptures.
