Remmon (I)

I. REMMON, or Rimmon; this Word may be taken in a generical Sense, for any Eminence. It also stands for a City in the Josh. xix. 7.Tribe of Simeon; probably the same as is ascribed to Judah, Josh. xv. 32. Nehem. xi. 29. and which is also call’d Remmus. Eusebius places it to the South of Judah, Euseb. in Remmon.sixteen Miles from Eleutheropolis, to the South. We know that several Cities of Judah were yielded up to Simeon. Probably this is the City mention’d by Zechariah xiv. 10. De colle Remmon ad austrum. The Hebrew says, From Geba to Rimmon, South of Jerusalem.
