Quadratus (I)

See Joseph. Antiq. l. 20. c. 5. De bello, l. 2. c. 21. p. 795.I. QUADRATUS. Numidius, or Caius Umidius Durmius Quadratus, was made Governor of Judea in the Year 51 of the vulgar Era. In 52 he composed the Troubles of Judea, by putting to death such of the Samaritans and Jews as had taken up Arms against the Romans. He sent Cumanus to Rome, with a Tribune called Celer, to give account of their Conduct to the Emperor Claudius. Also he sent thither Jonathan Son of Annas, Ananias the Highpriest, and Ananus Son of Annas. These last were carried thither loaded with Chains, as being the principal Authors of the Sedition. Quadratus’s Successor in this Government was Corbulo, whom Nero sent thither in the Year of Christ 60, after the death of Quadratus.
