Acts vi. 5.PROCHORUS, or Procorus, one of the seven first Deacons. He was chosen soon after our Saviour’s Ascension, in the Year 33 or 34 of the common Era. The Greeks think he was the first Bishop of Nicomedia. Ado says he suffer’d Martyrdom at Antioch the 9th of August, after having made himself very famous by his Miracles. We have an History of St. John the Evangelist, under the Name of Prochorus; but it is modern, and full of idle Stories, unworthy of the holy Deacon here mention’d.
