Volume II · N

No

Nahum vi. 8.NO, or No-ammon, a City of Egypt, which St. Jerom always translates by Alexandria. But it is rather the City of Diospolis in the Delta, between Busiris to the South, and Mendesium to the North. See Jeremiah xlvi. 25. Ezek. xxx. 14, 15, 16. Nahum iii. 8. See what is said of Diospolis and Thebes.

No-ammon signifies the Habitation of Ammon. Several are of Opinion, that Ammon is the same as Ham the Son of Noah, who, as they say, fixed his Dwelling in Egypt.
