Mincha

MINCHA. This is a pure Hebrew Word, and signifies Offerings of Meal, Cakes, or Biscuits, that were offered in the Temple of the Lord1. The Seventy have sometimes preserved this Hebrew Word in their Translation2; but instead of Mincha, they read Manaa, which doubtless was the received Pronunciation in their Time. We find Manna in the same Sence in Baruch i. 10. Prepare ye Manna, and offer upon the Altar of the Lord our God. The Scripture makes Use of the Word Mincha, to express the Offerings that Cain and Abel Gen. iv. 3, 4.made to the Lord, of their First-Fruits; and for the Presents that Jacob made to his Brother Esau, at his Return from Gen. xxxii. 13, 16, 18, 20, 21. Gen. xliii. 10, 14, 24. Judg. iii. 15, 17, 18. Mal. i. 10, 11.Mesopotamia; and for those that the Children of Jacob carried to Joseph into Egypt, before he discovered himself to them; and for those that Ebud presented to Eglon King of the Moabites: Malachi speaking of the Sacrifice of the new Law, which in every Place was to be offered, makes Use of the Word Mincha. From the rising of the Sun, even to the going down of the same, my Name shall be great among the Gentiles, and in every Place Incense shall be offered to my Name, and a pure Jerem. li. 27.Offering.
