Mary (III)

III. MARY, Mother of John Mark, a Disciple of the Apostles. She had a House in Jerusalem, whither it is thought the Apostles retired, after the Ascension of our Lord1, and where they received the Holy Ghost. This House was upon Mount Sion. Saint Epiphanius2 says, that it escaped the intire Destruction of Jerusalem by Titus, and that it was changed into a very famous Church, which endured for several Ages3. After the Imprisonment of Saint Peter, the Acts xii. 5, 6.Faithful assembled in this House, there praying instantly; when Peter delivered by the Ministry of an Angel, knocked at the Door of the House. There is nothing particular known of the Life of Mary, the Mother of John Mark. See JOHN MARK before.
