II. MARY, whose Relicks are preserved at Veroli in Campania di Roma, was the Mother of James and John. She was not called Mary, but Salome; though they commonly give her also the Name of Mary, the Mother of James and John. But Saint Matthew only calls her the Mother of the Sons of Zebedee; and Saint Mark xv. 40. calls her Salome. She was therefore Wife to Zebedee, and Mother to Saint James and Saint John. This M. Tillemont hath observed before me, and has been confirmed to me by Mr. Nicholas Aloysius, by a Letter wrote to me from Rome, in the Month of January 1726, wherein he says he had examined into the Bottom of this Affair, having perused all the Monuments of the Church of Veroli.
