Madon

MADON, a City of the Land of Canaan. Jobab King of Madon made a Confederacy with Jabin King of Hazor, and several others, against Joshua1; but he was taken and killed, and his City pillaged and destroyed. The Situation of the City of Madon is unknown, nor is it mentioned any where but in Josh. xi. 1. and xii. 19. I believe the true reading is Maron, instead of Madon; and we know a Place called Maronia in Syria, about thirty Miles from Antioch, to the North of Mount Libanus2. Maron or Meron is read in the Hebrew of Joshua, xii. 20.
