Legio

LEGIO, a Town in Palestine, celebrated in the Writings of Saint Jerom and Eusebius. It lay at the Foot of Mount Carmel, fifteen Miles Westward from Nazareth. It is in all Probability the same Place, which is still at this Day called Legune. It was a Camp, where the Romans kept a Legion of Soldiers, to defend the Passage from Ptolemais to Cæsarea in Palestine. It was, as we may say, the Key of the Country on this Side. Several Battles were fought in the Parts bordering upon Legio.
