LEBBÆUS, otherwise Judas or Thaddæus, was Brother to St. James the Less, Son of Mary, Sister to the Blessed Virgin, and of Cleophas, Brother to Saint Joseph. He was married, and had Children; for Hegesippus, as Euseb. Hist. Eccl. l. iii. c. 20. Nicephor. l. i. c. 33.Eusebius relates, speaks of two Martyrs, his Grandsons. Nicephorus calls his Wife Mary. At the last Supper, he asked Jesus Christ why he was to manifest himself unto them, and not unto the World. We have an Epistle in Saint Jude’s Name, whereof we have spoken in the Article relating to him. The Muscovites believe, that they received the Faith from him. See Saint Jude.
