LAND. The Land denotes often the Countrey of the Israelites, or in General, the Countrey or Canton which is spoken of; the Land of Canaan, the Land of Egypt, the Land of Ashur, the Land of Moab. Behold my Land is before thee, Gen. xx. 15. It is in your Power to settle your self, and go where you think proper. The Hebrews who were sent to view the promised Land reported, that it was a Land which devoured its Inhabitants, Numb. xiii. 33. it was filled with warlike People, was encompassed with Enemies, exposed to continual Dangers.
The Land of the Living, signifies the Habitation of the Blessed in the other Life, or even Palestine, in Opposition to the Land of Captivity, where the Jews looked upon themselves to be, as it were, in the Grave. See Psalm xxvi. 13. li. 7. lv. 23. cxli. 6. Isai. xxxviii. 11. liii. 8. &c.
The Land of Forgetfulness, of Obscurity, signifies the Grave. Psalm. lxxxvii. 13. Job. x. 21, 22. Psalm lxii. 10, &c.
