KINGS. The Idolatrous Nations, and even the Hebrews, called their Gods Kings. Moloch, Milchom, Adramelech, and Anamelech, are Names of Deities derived from that of Kings. The Words of Isaiah in ch. xxxvii. 13, Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arphad, and the King of the City of Sepharvaim, Henah and Ivah? seem parallel to those of the preceding Chapter xxxvi. 19, Where are the Gods of Hamath and Arphad? Where are the Gods of Sepharvaim? And in Amos, ch. i. 15. God threatens Melchom, the God of the Moabites, with sending him and his Princes into Captivity. Ibit Melchom in captivitatem ipse, & principes ejus simul. In the Scripture God is called in every Page almost, the King of the Hebrews.
