Japha

JAPHA, a City of Galilee, near Jotapata,Joseph. lib. de vita sua, p. 1016. & de Bello Jud. l. 3. c. 11. p. 848. Josh. xix. 12. according to Josephus. He fortified it with a double enclosure of walls; but this did not prevent the Romans from making themselves masters of it, and carrying fire and sword into every part of it, after they had taken it by assault. It is probably the same City, which in Joshua is called Japhia, and made part of the Tribe of Zebulun.
