Jambri

JAMBRI, was a man of power in the City of Medaba, beyond Jordan. His sons one day attacked John, the brother of the Maccabees, Simon and Jonathan, as he was going to the Nadabatheans loaded with a good booty, killed him and took away 1 Macc. ix. 36,37.what he had. To revenge the blood of their brother, and indemnify themselves for the loss they had sustained from Jambri’s family, Jonathan and Simon having intelligence of some remarkable marriage, and that Jambri’s sons were to conduct the bride to Medaba, they lay in ambuscade, fell upon the company, who thought of nothing but their diversion, took part of them, and carried off all their spoil. This happened about the year of the World 3843, before Jesus Christ 157, before the Vulgar Æra 161. See hereafter the Article IX. JONATHAN.
