Iscah

Gen. xv. 12ISCAH. Many are of opinion1, that she is the same as Sarah, daughter of Haran, Lot’s sister, and both neice and wife to Abraham. But there is some difficulty in this; for Sarah is never called Iscah, and Abraham does not say she was his niece, but his sister. She is indeed my sister, says he, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother. The Hebrews say commonly, that Sarah was the daughter of Terah as well as Abraham; and Saïdes Batricides patriarch of Alexandria, tells us upon the tradition of the Eastern people, that the first wife which Terah married was Jona, by whom he had Abraham; and that he had a second, Teehevita, by whom he had Sarah.
