Ibex

IBEX, a wild Goat, which is very swift, and runs up steep rocks. See 1 Sam. xxiv. 2. The Hebrew, Joale, is likewise to be met with in Job xxxix. 1. Psalm ciii. 18. and Prov. v. 12. Bochart, from some Arabian Authors, describes this creature in the following manner: It is a kind of wild Goat, says he, that lives upon steep Rocks; Nature has given it large Horns, which it bends backwards as far as its buttocks, so that it leaps from the highest precipices, and falls upon its back without hurting itself, because its horns receive and break the blow.
