To Hide

TO HIDE, To Hide one’s self. To hide one’s face, to turn from any one, are expressions which shew some aversion and estrangement. The Prophet beseeches God not to turn his face from him, not to hide himself before him; that is to say, he begs of him to hear him, to look favourably upon him. In another place he says, that he hides his friends in the secret of his presence: in some secret place, where he sees them in the Ps. xxxi. 20. Psal. cxix. 19.inner part of his Palace. He prays to God not to hide his commandments from him; to discover to him the sense of them. St. Paul says, that the Sacrament, Col. i. 26. See likewise Eph. iii. 9. Ps. lxxxiii. 3. על צפוניךor mystery of our salvation hath been hid from ages and from generations, but is now made manifest to his Saints in the times of the new Covenant.

To HIDE is often used for to protect. The Saints are sometimes called the hidden ones. In the Psalms, Cogitaverunt adversus sanctos suos; in the Hebrew, Adversus absconditos suos.
