II. HIRAM, the son of a Tyrian, whose name we are unacquainted with, and a Jewish mother of the tribe of Naphtali, according 1 Kings vii. 13, 14. 2 Chron. ii. 14.to the book of Kings; or of a Tyrian father, and a mother of the Tribe of Dan, according to the book of Chronicles. This Hiram was an excellent Artificer in all sorts of works in brass or copper. He understood not only how to execute, but likewise to invent the finest works. He made two large columns of brass for Solomon, which were placed at the entrance of the Temple-Porch, one whereof was called Jachin, the other Booz. He moreover made that large Bason, called the Brazen-Sea, wherein water was kept for the use of the Temple; and ten brazen Basons of a lesser size, with their bases, for the use of the Priests.
