Hanani (II)

1 Kings xvi. 7.II. HANANI, a Prophet who came to Asa King of Judah, and said to him, Because thou hast put thy trust in the King of Syria, and not in the Lord, the army of the King of Syria is escaped out of thine hands. We do not know distinctly upon what occasion the Prophet discoursed in this manner to the King, but Asa ordered him to be seized on, and put in prison, and at the same time treated his people with great violence and injustice. Some will have it, that this Hanani was father to the Prophet Jehu: but this does not appear very clearly from the Scripture. Jehu prophesied in the kingdom of Israel, and Hanani in that of Judah. Jehu was put to death by Baasha King of Israel, who died in the year of the World 3075; and Hanani reproved Asa King of Judah, who reigned from 3049 to 3090.
