Goliath (II)

II. GOLIATH, another Giant, who was killed by Elhanan, the son of Jair, of Bethlehem. The Author of the Vulgate expresses it thus, Percussit Adeodatus filius Saltûs, polymitarius Bethlehemites, Goliath Getheum. In the Chronicles, where the Text seems to be more correct, we read, Elhanan, the son of Jair, slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite. Among the gallant officers belonging to David, there is one Elhanan of Bethlehem, the son of Joab’s uncle by the father’s side. It was probably this Elhanan, who killed the brother of Goliath, whether this Giant really was his brother, or only resembled him in the height of his stature.
