GLAPHYRA, the daughter of Archelaus King of Cappadocia: Her first husband was Alexander the son of Herod the Great, whose history we have related in the Article ALEXANDER. Glaphyra had two sons by her husband, Alexander and Tigranes; this last was King of Armenia.
Glaphyra married a second husband, who was Juba King of Mauritania; but he did not live long. Lastly, her third husband was Archelaus Ethnarch of Judæa, the brother of Alexander her first husband. It is said, that five days before her death, her first husband Alexander appeared to her, reproached her sharply with breach of promise by the second and third marriages which she had contracted; and threatned her, that in five days time, he would take her again to himself; which accordingly happened.
