Fovea

FOVEA. This is sometimes taken for the grave. The mouth of a strange woman is Prov. xxii. 14. Ib. xxiii. 27.a deep pit, he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein. And again, Fovea profunda est meretrix, & puteus angustus aliena. The prison wherein Joseph was confined is also called Fovea. God went down Wisd. x. 13.with him into the pit. It is a common proverb in the Scripture; He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it. He who lays snares for others, shall be caught in them himself. Ps. vii. 15. Eccl. x. 8. Ecclus. xxvii. 29.They have digged a pit and are faln into the midst of it themselves. selves. It appears that among the Hebrews, they often dug pits in this manner, to catch men and beasts.
