Fear

FEAR, is sometimes used for the Object of Fear. Thus it is said, the fear of Isaac, to describe the God whom Isaac feared. Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. —— God says, that he will send his Exod. xxiii. 27. Deut. ii. 25.Fear before his people, in order to terrify and destroy the inhabitants of Canaan; that the terror of them shall put their enemies to flight. Job speaks of the terrors of God, Job vi. 4. Psalm lxxxviii. 15.that they set themselves in array against him; and the Psalmist, that he had suffered the terrors of the Lord with a troubled mind.
