EXEDRA. We often meet with this Latin word in the books of Kings and Chronicles. It signifies properly such seats as were under porches, where it is usual for people to get together, or the chambers joining to these porches, where there were several seats for the use of those, who retired thither. In Scripture, it is taken for those apartments which reached all along the courts of the Temple, whither the Priests and Levites, who were upon duty, withdrew to eat, drink, and sleep, and where the provisions of the Temple were locked up, and the riches which were there offered.
