Eucharist

EUCHARIST, a word particularly set apart in the Catholick Church to signify the Sacrament, which really and in truth contains the body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ, under the appearances of bread and wine consecrated at the sacrifice of the mass . It is called Eucharist, because Jesus Christ in the institution of this divine sacrament, gave thanks to God, broke the Matth. xxvi. 27.bread, and blessed the cup. Now Eucharistia in Greek, signifies thanksgiving, and answers to the Hebrew, Barach to bless, Benedicere.or Hodah to praise.
