Etheca

ETHECA. We meet with this word in Ezekiel xli. 15, 16. Ethecas ex utraque parte centum cubitorum. This word is formed from the Hebrew, Athikim, or Ethikim, which may signify a gallery, portico, or place apart. St. Jerom, who has used this term Etheca in the xlist chapter of Ezekiel, in the xliid chapter, 3, 5. renders it porch; and this is its true signification. Notwithstanding in his Comment he reads Eccheta, and says that this word signifies a balcony. Vide nov. Edit. Hieronym. p. 714.Ecthetas Romæ appellant solaria de cœnaculorum parietibus eminentiâ, sive Mæniana, ab eo qui primus invenit.
