Hieron. Quæst. Hebr. in Genes.I. EPHER, the second son of Midian, a brother of Ephah, 1 Chr. i. 33. He dwelt beyond Jordan, 1 Kings iv. 10. Epher might have peopled the Isle of Urphe in the Red Sea, or the city of Orpha in the Diarbech. Saint Jerom cites Alexander Polyhistor and Cleodemus, surnamed Malchus, who affirm, that Epher made an incursion upon Libya, conquered it, and called it Africa. Hercules is said to have accompanied him in this war.
