Emims

EMIMS, ancient inhabitants of the land of Canaan beyond Jordan, who were defeated by Chedorlaomer and his allies. Moses Gen. xiv. 5.says, that they were beaten at Shaveh Kiriathaim, or in the plain of Kiriathaim. Now Kiriathaim was in the country which Sehon conquered from the Moabites. The Josh. xiii. 19, 20, 21. &c. Deut. ii. 10.Emims were a warlike people, of a gigantick stature, great and many and tall as the Anakims, which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims. It is very probable that what is said in Genes. xxxvi. 24. of Anah that found the1 Jeamims in the wilderness, should be understood of the Emims, whom Anah met with and defeated. See ANAH, and the place in Genesis, which we have cited.
